LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said Tuesday that the death of Andrew Getty, 47, one of the heirs of the Getty Oil Founder J. Paul Getty, appears to have been due to natural causes or an accident.
Los Angeles County coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter told the Los Angeles Times that the death was initially called an accident because of medication found at the scene. He said the Coroner's Office will need to wait for the results of additional examination and toxicology tests, which may take up to 10 weeks to complete.
Police said a woman who had called to report that someone had died at Getty's Hollywood Hills home sent officers to the gated home on Montcalm Avenue just after 2:15 p.m. Once there, police found a man dad in the bathroom, appearing to be naked from the waist down and having suffered blunt force trauma.
Police said the unnamed woman who made the initial call to police was cooperating with the investigation and that she was not arrested. She is said to be a friend of Getty.
Getty is one of four sons of San Francisco multibillionaire Gordon Getty who is considered among the richest men in the U.S.
