Long-Running 'DeGrassi' Franchise Set to End its Run


LOS ANGELES - MTV Canada has canceled the long-running "Degrassi" teen drama after 14 seasons on the air. The popular Degrassi franchise from producer Epitome Pictures is ending after launching the careers of the rapper Drake, 90210's Shenae Grimes and others.

“We are immensely proud of Degrassi, and our longstanding partnership with Linda and Stephen. We wish the entire Epitome team the best of luck, and look forward to working with them again in the future," Phil King president, CTV, sports and entertainmant programming, said in a statement today.

"DeGrassi" is part of the highly successful DeGrassi franchise made up of four different series airing . The franchis includes the series "The Kids of Degrassi Street," "Degrassi Junior High," "Degrassi High" and "Degrassi: The Next Generation."

The various versions of the series have aired on PBS, MTV, Nickelodeon and TeenNick since 1980. The current "DeGrassi" airs on TeenNick and is set to premiere its final season in July on MTV Canada.
