Tarantino's 'The Hateful Eight' Receives a Christmas Release

LOS ANGELES - Quentin Tarantino's Western saga "The Hateful Eight" has received a Christmas release date from the Weinstein Company, the firm has confirmed.

Like many westerns of old, the movie will be released in 70mm, making it the widest release in that format in more than 20 years, according to Variety.

“The Hateful Eight” is much-awaited follow-up to “Django Unchained,” which also reached theaters on Christmas Day and grossed over $425 million worldwide. The movie is set at a freezing Wyoming locale when a storm strikes while a stagecoach arrives at a mountainous stopover.

The film, which is Tarantino's eighth, stars Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bruce Dern.

Also set for Christmas release are “Point Break” a Warner Bros. reboot; Sony’s “Concussion,” starring Will Smith; “Joy,” from Fox, starring Jennifer Lawrence; and “Snowden” from Open Road.
