'Jurassic World' Stays on Top of the Weekend Box Office with $106.6M

LOS ANGELES - Universal's dinosaur-themed juggernaut, "Jurassic World" stayed on top of the weekend box office with $106.59 million despite a strong showing by Disney's animated feature, "Inside Out" which garnered $90.44 million on its opening weekend for a second place showing.


"Jurassic Park" showed no signs of abating as it crossed the $400 million mark at the domestic box office just 10 days after its release while also reaching $1 billion in worldwide sales. The film has totaled $402.80 million thus far.


The new totals puts the movie ahead of other films reaching $400 million such as "Avatar" (23 days), "The Dark Knight" (18 days), "The Avengers" (14 days), and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (24 days). By earning $106.59 million over the weekend, it dropped 49 percent yet it is now officially the biggest non-opening weekend of all time, beating The Avengers‘s $103 million second weekend.


In third place was Fox's Melissa McCarthy comedy, "Spy" with $11.22 million for a three-week total of $75.10 million.


The rest stacked up this way:


4. "San Andreas" (Warner Bros.) $8.70 million for a four-week total of $132.69 million.

5. "Dope" (Open Roads) $6.10 million on opening weekend

6. "Insidious: Chapter 3" (Focus Pictures) $4.06 million, $45.32 million.

7. "Pitch Perfect 2" (Universal) $3.52 million, $177.68 million

8. "Mad Max: Fury Road" (Warner Bros.) $3.03 million, $143.82 million

9. "Avengers: Age of Ultron" (Disney) $2.85 million, $449.45 million

10. "Tomorrowland" (Disney) $2.22 million, $87.90 million
