LOS ANGELES - The Weinstein Co. has re-released the critically-acclaimed "Southpaw" starring Jake Gyllenhaal for awards consideration.

The move gives the film a chance to be seen by a greater audience involved in awards consideration, Weinstein Co. said in its announcement today. The movie will screen in 300 theaters beginning today.

The move gives Gyllenhaal a chance to join a best actor potential field that likely includes stars like Johnny Depp (“Black Mass”), Michael Fassbender (“Steve Jobs”) and Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”). Leonardo DiCaprio could also be in the mix for his work in “The Revenant” set for release later this year, while Will Smith could also join the field for his performance in “Concussion.” Others like Bryan Cranston (“Trumbo”), Steve Carell (“The Big Short”), Tom Hanks (“Bridge of Spies”), Michael Caine (“Youth”) and Matt Damon (“The Martian”) will likely also be in contention.
