LOS ANGELES - A record setting $9.2 million opening day for "Spectre" may well foretell a blockbuster weekend for the newest film in the James Bond franchise which beat out "Skyfall" on its opening day, making it the biggest opening Tuesday gross in the UK, according to Variety.

The new film reunites Daniel Craig, who plays James Bond for the fourth time, and veteran producer Sam Mendes who returns to direct the film. "Spectre"  follows Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the widow of an infamous criminal mastermind. Bond infiltrates a secret meeting and discovers the existence of the sinister Spectre.

EON Productions, MGM and Sony Pictures will release the movie world-wide on Nov. 6. “Skyfall” was the highest grossing film in the Bond franchise, with $1.1 billion worldwide, including $304 million in the U.S.
