LOS ANGELES - Media reports today say 20th Century Fox is preparing for a sequel to "Deadpool," the comedic superhero blockbuster starring Ryan Reynolds.

The studio has reportedly signed "Deadpool" screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to write the sequel, as well as Reynolds who will reprise his foul-mouthed, violence-prone superhero. During Monday's press day for the DVD/Blu-Ray release of the film, Reese told reporters that he was not allowed to talk about a sequel, but admitted if one were in the offing, it would be more of a $50 million film that focuses more on the Reynolds character than trying to make a $200 million epic.

"Deadpool" tells the story of a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary is subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopting the alter ego Deadpool.

Released on Feb. 8, the film grossed $136 million on its opening weekend on the way to a $358 million domestic total and worldwide gross of $758.79 million so far. The film is still playing in theaters, earning $2.08 million this weekend for 11th place at the weekend box office.
