Wrestling Star Chyna Dies at 45

Former wrestling superstar Chyna was discovered dead at home on April 20 (Publicity Photo).

 

LOS ANGELES  - Former WWE superstar Chyna was found dead at her Redondo Beach, Calif. home today. She was 45.

 

The Redondo Beach Police Department confirmed the wrestling star's death in a statement: "there are no indications or signs that the death was a result of foul play," and added, "events leading up to the death of Joan Lauer is under investigation by the Redondo Beach Police Department to assist in the determination if the death was natural or accidental."

 

The cause of death is under investigation by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s department.

 

Made her debut in 1997 with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), today known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) as  "Chyna" a name meant to be a play on the words "fine china," which describes something fragile and delicate -- the complete opposite of her wrestling demeanor.

 

In 1991 Chyna became the first woman to qualify for the King of the Ring tournament. She was also the first woman to be the top contender for the WWF Championship.

 

Chyna left the WWF in 2001, but remained involved with professional wrestling until her retirement in 2011.

She also appeared in "Playboy" magazine twice, and go on to perform in six adult films, including one with wrestler Sean Waltman.

 

She also appeared "The Surreal Life: Fame Games" in 2007 and "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" in 2008.
