LOS ANGELES – Universal is reportedly eyeing “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer to help its planned “Scarface” remake, according to

Ayer, who is also known for directing “Training Day,’ will likely be directing the reboot of the 1983 Brian DePalma classic that starred Al Pacino as the Cuban-born mobster who goes from two-bit hood to head of a vast criminal enterprise in Florida.

The proposed Coen Brothers reboot will reportedly begin shooting sometime next year although nothing has been made official.

Diego Luna, who is known for his role as Cassian Andor in “Rogue One,” will portray the title character in this re-imagined tale, which was originally released in 1932 as a classic gangster flick starring Paul Muni before Brian De Palma created the current classic. Oliver Stone wrote the 1983 film, with Al Pacino in the lead role of Tony Montana. This new “Scarface” is set in the El Sereno area of Los Angeles.
