'X Files' Set to Return to Fox with Six-Episode Reboot!

LOS ANGELES - After 13 years since its last first-run episode aired, "The X Files" is set to return to network television, Fox Television Group announced today!

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to reprise their cult characters, special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in a six-episode limited series for the Fox network. Also returning will be original series creator Chris Carter who will helm the reboot which is scheduled to start production in summer 2015. An air date has not been set.

"I think of it as a 13-year commercial break," Carter said in prepared statement.

"The X Files" originally premiered in September 1993 and ran until May 2002. The series told the stories of FBI agents Mulder and Scully as they investigated cases of the strange and unexplained, including aliens and unusual beings.

Duchovny, 54, and Anderson, 46, last portrayed their characters in 2008's "The X Files: I Want to Believe," feature film. The new reboot follows Fox's revival of "24," a 13-episode limited series last spring which brought back Kiefer Sutherland as Agent Jack Bauer.

A formal title to "The X Files" reboot has not been announced.
