LOS ANGELES - ABC and Marvel are teaming up to create a spinoff of the networks' popular "The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." series, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The spinoff would be executive produced by SHIELD's executive producer Jeffrey Bell and writer and Paul Zbyszewski (Lost). The concept remains confidential, but sources said the series could air in the fall or midseason. Neither ABC nor Marvel would comment, Entertainment Weekly reported.
The series would come at a time when rival DC Comics has been growing its television presence with the CW's "Arrow," and "The Flash," while Netflix is preparing to release the first season its own superhero series "The Daredevil."
"SHIELD" has been an important performer for ABC, albeit not a strong one, averaging just 7.4 million viewers while its sister series "Agent Carter" is on the bubble for possible renewal.
