Power Rangers Movie Premiere Set for January 2017
LOS ANGELES - Lionsgate plans to release the "Power Rangers" movie on January 13, 2017 after setting July 22, 2016 as the original release date.
Haim Saban, who created "Power Rangers" for television, is set to produce the film with Brian Casentini, development and production head for Saban Brands, and Allison Shearmur, head of production at Lionsgate.
Details of the film have not been released.
The original live-action “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” began in 1993 as a science-fiction super hero series geared for children. The show is known to change its name every year, with the current version dubbed “Power Rangers Super Megaforce,” which began airing on Nickelodeon in February.
"Power Rangers" helped launch the Fox network's Fox Kids programming block of the 1990s, when it gained wide popularity with its broad action and a line of action figures and other toys. Although it was initially criticized for its action violence aimed at child audiences, the show has continued continued its popularity that includes 22 television seasons and two theatrical films.
