A Clip for Upcoming Amy Winehouse Documentary Released

LOS ANGELES - "Amy," the documentary chronicling the life of the late and embattled singer Amy Winehouse will be released in July, but its producers have just released a clip of the film today.

The film, which was directed by Asif Kapadia, has been criticized by the Winehouse's family, who say it is "misleading and contains some basic untruths" in a statement issued last month. The family has accused the film's producers of suggesting that they did not do enough to help Winehouse who died in July 23, 2011 at 27 of alcohol poisoning. The late singer had been battling alcohol and drug abuse at the time of her death.

"Amy" is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on July 3 and will receive a special screening at the Cannes International Film Festival this month.

Born in Sept. 14, 1983 in Southgate, London, England, Winehouse gained fame thanks to her debut album "Frank," issued in 2003. was a critical success in the UK and was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her 2006 follow-up album, "Back to Black," led to five Grammy Awards in 2008, tying the record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night, and made her the first British female artist to win five Grammys, including three of the so-called "Big Four" awards: Best New Artist, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.
