'Mysteries of Laura' Gets 11th Hour Renewal


LOS ANGELES - NBC has decided to bring back "Mysteries of Laura" for a second season despite average ratings and negative reviews from critics since its inception. The show, starring Debra Messing of the late "Will & Grace," mixes crime procedurals with family drama and humor.

The show is the fourth-most watched show on the network, averaging more than 8.2 million viewers each week. The show is led by executive producers Greg Berlanti ("The Flash") and Aaron Kaplan ("Chasing Life"). "Mysteries of Laura" had been on the bubble for weeks before the network finally pulled the trigger on the show.

After the show's pickup, Berlanti now has six shows on the broadcast schedule next season which includes NBC's pickup of his "Blindspot" pilot to series, The CW is returning "The Flash" and "Arrow" and has also ordered a "Flash" crossover pilot for series. CBS also picked up "Supergirl." Kaplan, so far has seven series set for broadcast and cable next season. They include "Secrets and Lies" on ABC, HBO's Divorce, "Kevin From Work" and "Chasing Life," on ABC Family and "Instant Mom" in Nickelodeon.
