'The Voice' Contestant Committed Suicide, Police Say
LOS ANGELES - Authorities in Philadelphia today ruled the death of 28-year-old "The Voice" contestant Anthony Riley as a suicide. Riley was found hanged in the basement of his apartment building last Friday,
Riley, a popular street performer in Philadelphia’s Center City, was selected by all four fo the show's judges during his audition where he sang James Brown’s “I Got You (I Feel Good).” But he left the program just after the first battle round in January to seek help for his substance-abuse issues.
Family membes told The Philadelphia Inquirer that Riley was working on an album since departing the show, despite his struggles with addiction.
“We are sad over the passing of Anthony Riley. We offer our deepest condolences to his friends and family during this very difficult time,” NBC told People magaazine in a statement.
