LOS ANGELES - Fresh off the success of "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation," Tom Cruise is now set to reprise his leading role in "Jack Reacher 2."
Although 2012's "Jack Reacher" came nowhere near "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" numbers - it made just $80 million in the U.S. and $214 million worldwide. "Jack Reacher 2" is set to begin shooting in November with Ed Zwick directing. Paramount and Skydance, who have also partnered on Mission: Impossible movies and "Jack Reacher," say they plan to release the new sequel in 2016.
The first movie told the story of a homicide investigator who digs deeper into a case involving a trained military sniper who shot five random victims.
The film co-starred Rosamund Pike ("Gone Girl") and Richard Jenkins ("The Cabin in the Woods)").
Paramount, however,
has said it plans to shoot "Mission: Impossible 6" during summer 2016 and release it in the summer of 2017.
