LOS ANGELES - After more than a dozen years, Warner Bros. Animation is set to bring back Scooby Doo and his group of ghost/crime-busting friends to movie theatres in an all-new animated feature, the Hollywood Reporter says.

Animation veteran Tony Cervone, who has directed several straight-to-own Scooby Doo movies, will be directing the movie, which for a September 21, 2018 releases. Producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who have produced the studio’s live-action Scooby movies, "Scooby-Doo" in 2002, and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed," in 2004 will be producing with Allison Abbate.

The live action movies, which featured Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, were based upon the venerable 1960s Saturday mor

ning cartoons produced by Hanna-Barbera.

The studio says it hopes the new movie will lead to the production of a number of movies based upon a variety of Hanna-Barbera characters.
