Netflix Renews 'Narcos' for Second Season

LOS ANGELES - Netflix has renewed the crime drama about the 1980s drug business, "Narcos," for a second season.

The series, created by Chris Brancato, Carlo Bernard and Doug Miro, stars Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar and Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal as the DEA agents in this biographical crime drama of the drug trade of the 1980s. Series, produced by Gaumont International Television, premiered Aug. 28 on Netflix with a first season of 10 episodes.

Jose Padilha, Eric Newman, Brancato, Miro and Bernard executive produced. Newman has said "Narcos" was originally considered as a movie, but then decided the TV series would give producers the ability to show the many facets of the Escobar's story and his ultimate bloody takedown by authorities.

Veteran producer Adam Fierro ("The Shield") will take over as showrunner in season two from Brancato who left the show at the end of the season after signing a deal with ABC.
