'The Martian' Tops the Weekend Box Office for Second Straight Week

LOS ANGELES - 'The Martian' topped the weekend box office for the second straight time as the sci-fi epic from 20th Century Fox earned $37 million, well ahead of second-place animated feature "Hotel Transylvania 2" which earned $20.42 million.
"The Martian" dropped by 37 percent from its opening weekend, but still managed to top $100 million with $108.71 million. The Ridley Scott-directed film may have a battle on its hands to stay on top next week when "Crimson Tide," "Goosebumps," and "Bridge of Spies" make their premiere.
But this weekend "The Martian" and "Hotel Transylvania 2" were followed in third place by Warner Bros. "Pan," with $15.31 million on its opening weekend, followed in fourth place by Warner Bros. "The Intern" with $8.68 million for a three-week total of $49.59 million. In fifth place was Lionsgate's "Sicario" with $7.58 million for a four-week total of $26.93 million.

7. "The Walk" (Tri-Star) $3.72 million for a two-week total of $6.43 million
8. "Black Mass" (Warner Bros.) $3.12 million for a four-week total of $57.55 million
9. "Everest (2015)" (Universal) $3.07 for four-week total of $38.25 million
10. "The Visit" (Universal) $2.52 for four-week total of $61.16 million
