LOS ANGELES - Bradley Cooper's "Burnt" (fifth place) and Sandra Bullock's "Our Our Brand is Crisis" (8th place) tanked in their debuts as "The Martian" topped the weekend box office for the second straight week and three of the last five weekends.

The two bankable stars were seemingly no match for "The Martian" on a Halloween weekend where even the horror-themed "Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse" bombed in 12th place with just $1.77 million. Although October is traditionally a slow month for movies, it didn't help that Halloween fell on a Saturday, giving people something more to do other than watch movies.

Fox's "The Martian" earned $11.40 million for a five-week total of $182.81 million, staying just ahead of Sony's kid-friendly "Goosebumps" with $10.21 million for three-week total of $57.10 million. Disney's cold war drama starring Tom Hanks came in third with $8.06 million for a three-week total of $45.30 million. Sony's animated "Hotel Transylvania 2" was fourth with $5.83 million for a six-week total of $156.0 million, followed by "Burnt" in fifth place with $5.04 million.

The rest stacked up this way:

6. "The Last Witch Hunter" (Lionsgate/Summit) $4.75 million for a two-week total of $18.61 million

7. "Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension" (Paramount) $3.45 million for a two-week total of $13.57 million.

8. "Our Brand is Crisis" (Warner Bros.) $3.43 million on its opening weekend

9. "Crimson Peak" (Universal) $3.11 million for a three-week total of $27.74 million

10. "Steve Jobs" (Universal) $2.58 million for a four-week total of $14.54 million
