LOS ANGELES - A 34-year-old crew member on the film “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” is dead after a prop car crushed him on set in Cape Town, South Africa, according to several media reports.
Authorities said Ricardo Cornelius was part of a group of crew members who were manually rotating a U.S. Army Hummer in the horror-thriller in early December, when the vehicle apparently slipped off its platform and pinned him beneath. He was taken to a local hospital and put on life support, but he was later pronounced dead.
The tragedy comes just after "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" stunt woman Olivia Jackson revealed that she’ll have to amputate her arm after she severly injured it during a motorcycle chase during the production.
“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” is the fifth film of the series. It stars Milla Jovovich, Ruby Rose, Ali Larter and Iain Glenn in the final film of the movie franchise based on the popular Capcom video game about an apocalyptic future. It is directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. The film is scheduled for release on Jan. 27, 2017 by Screen Gems.
