Elijah Wood's Comedy 'The Greasy Strangler’ Gets Distribution Deal

LOS ANGELES - Jim Hosking’s horror-comedy “The Greasy Strangler” with Elijah Wood, which debuted at Sundance in January, has signed a distribution deal with FilmRise.

Under the agreement, FilmRise will partner with Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas in a multi-market effort to release the film, which is a co-production of SpectreVision, Drafthouse, Rook Films and Timpson Films.

"The Greasy Strangler" tells the story of Ronnie who runs a Disco walking tour with his son, Brayden, when a sexy woman takes the tour and begins a competition between father and son for her love. It also signals the arrival of an oily strangler who stalks the streets at night.

"The Greasy Strangler" is set to play at South By South West this month.

The film was produced by Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah, and Josh C. Waller, through their SpectreVision firm, Rook Films’ Andrew Starke and Timpson Films’ founder Ant Timpson. Tim League of DraftHouse, and filmmaker Ben Wheatley and Theo Brooks will serve as executive producers.
