LOS ANGELES - STX Entertainment has delayed the release of "Free States of Jones" starring Matthew McConaughey until June 24.
The company did not say the reason for the delay, but said it would do well during the Fourth of July weekend with the change.
The movie, directed by Gary Ross from a script by Ross and a story by Leonard Hartman, tells the story of a poor farmer (McGonaughey) from Mississippi leads a group of rebels against the Confederate army. The cast includes Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mahershala Ali ("Concussion") and Keri Russell ("Dawn of the Planet of the Apes").
Ross is known for his work as director of "Hunger Games," as well as a number of films such as "Oceans Twelve," and "Seabiscuit."
