LOS ANGELES - Former O.J. Simpson lawyer Robert Shapiro revealed to Megyn Kelly during her Fox special on Tuesday night, what his client whispered in his ear after the trial verdict was read.
“You had told me this would be the result from the beginning. You were right,” Shapiro said Simpson told him in 1995 after he was acquitted of the murders of ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Shapiro made the comments on “Megyn Kelly Presents” Tuesday, which also included interviews with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, actress Laverne Cox and Michael Douglas.
Shapiro also told Kelly that he had tried on the gloves that were allegedly used in the murder and immediately knew they would not fit Simpson.
The trial was the focus of the FX’s miniseries “People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” and the eight-hour ESPN-produced documentary series “O.J.: Made in America.” In the FX docudrama, Shapiro was portrayed by John Travolta. Shapiro refused to say whether or not he believed Simpson to be guilty, telling Kelly that he hasn’t talked about it with anyone – not even his wife.
The former footballs star was later convicted of armed robbery in 2008 and sentenced to 33 years in prison, but Shapiro said he wouldn’t have taken on the case even if Simpson had asked him to. “He still owed me money from the first one,” he said.
