Sony in Talks with Michael Bay over Docu-Drama on El Chapo Saga
LOS ANGELES - Sony is reportedly in talks with Michael Bay to produce and possibly direct the movie version of “Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling inside Story of The American Lawman Who Captures The World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord,” a soon-to-be-published book by Cole Merrell about the pursuit and subsequent capture of the Mexican drug boss.
Matt Milam is heading the project with Will Rowbotham and Richard Abate producing. Sony had recently acquired the rights to the book with 3 Arts representing the book. Cole Merrell is a pseudonym for the DEA agent who led investigation and pursuit of El Chapo.
El Chapo, whose actual name is Archivaldo Guzman Loera, is head of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico and was considered the DEA’s most wanted man until his capture in 2015, before escaping from prison twice. The last time was when he escaped by using a long tunnel dug under his bathroom shower. He was recaptured last year and is facing trial in the U.S. and Mexico.
