LOS ANGELES - Clay Adler, who gained fame for appearing on two seasons of MTV’s “Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County,” has died in an apparent suicide.

The 27-year-old Adler reportedly took his own life last month when he and some friends went shooting in the desert on March 25, according to TMZ. While they were firing at targets, Adler apparently turned a gun on himself. He died the next day in an area hospital.

Adler was said to have had no drugs or alcohol in his system. Sources reported that the reality star had previously struggled with mental health issues.

“We are saddened by the news of Clay Adler’s passing,” MTV told The Huffington Post in a statement Tuesday. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time.”

A tribute to Adler was posted on what looks to be Allie Stockton’s Instagram page; Stockton appeared on “Newport Harbor” with Adler.

Besides “Newport Harbor: The Real Orange County,” Adler had small roles in “Make It or Break It” and the TV movie “The Fish Tank.” He also became friends with Jennifer Lawrence when they were both starting out in the entertainment industry.

Lawrence is reportedly “heartbroken” over the young star’s passing, according to the UK’s Daily Mail.

According to his wishes, Clay’s organs were donated to those in need. Five people have reportedly benefited from his generosity.
