Margot Robbie Eyeing Queen Elizabeth Role in ‘Mary Queen of Scots’

LOS ANGELES – Margot Robbie is reportedly in negotiations to play Queen Elizabeth in “Mary Queen of Scots,” by Focus and Working Title.

Josie Rourke is set to direct the film with Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Liza Chasin producing for Working Title.

The film will tell the story of Mary Stuart’s effort to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, as Queen of England, which results in her imprisonment and execution. The film has not been green lit yet.

The 26-year-old Robbie, is currently starring in “Goodbye Christopher Robin,” by Fox Searchlight’s where she plays the wife of author A.A. Milne who famously penned “Winnie the Pooh.” “I, Tonya” where Robbie starred as troubled champion figure skater Tonya Harding recently completed production for her company Lucky Chap Entertainment.

The potential role as Queen Elizabeth follows last summer’s “Suicide Squad” and “Wolf of Wall Street,” which earned Robbie A-list status and two major blockbusters under her belt.
