Disney Set to Release ‘Star Wars: Episode IX' in May 2019

LOS ANGELES – “Star Wars: Episode IX,” will be releasing in May 2019 while the live-action “Lion King” reboot, and “Frozen 2” will be released in July and November 2019, respectively, Disney has announced.

The studio has scheduled the fifth outing of the “Indiana Jones” series for July 10, 2020 release date. It had been slated to premiere on July 19, 2019. The delay allows the filmmakers more time to develop a script that Stephen Spielberg and Harrison Ford will support.

Disney’s moves will give it a tactical advantage over fellow studios since it owns the rights to Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar’s libraries giving it a huge stable of animated characters and superheroes from which to draw upon. This allows them to lock in the prime summer, spring, and holiday release dates for its films years in advance, and giving other studios little room to put their films in position where they won’t have to compete against franchises like “Avengers” and “Star Wars.”
