'A Star is Born' Leads SAG Award Nominations

LOS ANGELES – “A Star Is Born” led all nominations today for the 25th Screen Actors Guild Awards with its four nods which included best ensemble making the Bradley Cooper vehicle the Academy Awards front runner.
In nominations announced at the Screen Actors Guild, which are often a predictors of the Oscars race, has immediately boosted the film’s chances at the Oscars, with nominations for best male actor for Cooper, best female actor for Lady Gaga along with best supporting male actor for Sam Elliott.
“Vice,” the Dick Cheney biopic, earned SAG nods for Christian Bale and Amy Adams, while “Green Book” won nominations for its leads Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali.
But Alfonso Cuaron’s Netflix drama “Roma” was out in the cold with zero nominations, along with the Neil Armstrong drama “First Man” from Damien Chazelle.
“Black Panther” also landed a nomination for its stunt team while Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman” received nominations nods for both John David Washington and Adam Driver.
Yorgos Lanthimos’ period romp “The Favourite” failed to crack best ensemble, but its three leads — Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone — were all nominated, as expected. Stone added a second nod for her performance in the Netflix miniseries “Maniac.”
Emily Blunt also received two nominations which included one for her lead role in “Mary Poppins Returns” and another for her supporting actress in “A Quiet Place.” Also earning nominations for best female performance were Glenn Close for “The Wife”) and Melissa McCarthy for “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
Nominations in the television categories included “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Ozark” which led with four nominations apiece. “Barry,” ″GLOW,” ″The Handmaid’s Tale” and “The Kominsky Method” earned three nominations each.
“Atlanta,” ″Barry,” ″GLOW,” ″The Kominsky Method” and “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.” Earned nods for best ensemble in comedy. In the drama series ensemble category, the nominees were “The Americans,” ″Better Call Saul,” ″The Haidmaid’s Tale,” ″Ozark” and “This Is Us.”
Altogether, Netflix dominated the television categories with 15 total nods.
The SAG Awards will be held Jan. 27 and will be broadcast live by TNT and TBS.
