Varunn Pandya to Write Upcoming Feature 'The Switch Up'

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Screenwriter Varunn Pandya has been tapped to write the script for the upcoming feature film “The Switch Up,” from producer Maria Whatley.

‘I’m very excited about working on this film and share this unique comedy with fans,” Pandya said. “I’ll be working on the script with Bader AlShuaib so it's a very exciting venture for the both of us. It's a family comedy film and something people of all ages will be able to enjoy.”

Although details are scant, “The Switch Up” will begin production next year, featuring a diverse cast of performers of various ethnic backgrounds.

“It's time to bring talents of different nationalities to the screen to crossover internationally,” Whatley said.

Pandya is known for the recent award-winning shorts “The House” which tells the story of a 30-year-old writer who learns the lesson of humility upon meeting a homeless man, and the futuristic “XYZ,” which follows the tale of a couple struggling to afford the expense of a gene editing procedure.

“I am more tuned in with genres such as drama, comedy, and thrillers,” Pandya said. “Each one has its unique style of presentation that one must keep in mind. Working on different projects with different genres is definitely something that keeps my mind’s creative juices flowing and something that's very exciting.”

Having worked on a number of projects since arriving from India a few years ago, the talented screenwriter has already made his mark earning Best Screenplay at the Calcutta Cult Film Festival for “The House” and for Best Sci-Fi Short Screenplay at the Hollywood Just4Shorts Short Film & Screenplay Competition for “XYZ.” His script for “Goodbye, America” was named Best Super Short Screenplay at the Berlin Flash Film Festival last year.
