Amanda Bynes Put on 72-Hour Psychiatric Hold After Being Found Roaming the Streets Naked
March 20, 2023
LOS ANGELES – Amanda Bynes has been placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold after she was found completely naked on Sunday while wandering the streets of Los Angeles, a source told NBC News on Monday.
The 36-year-old former actress called 9-1-1 on herself after flagging down a passerby in a car. She told the driver that she was coming down from a psychotic episode, according to published reports.
“She hasn’t been in contact with her family for quite some time,” the source told NBC.
Last October, Bynes revealed in a social media posting that she only had 300 hours left in school to become a certified nail technician. On Oct. 17, 2022, she shared a photo of her school supplies with the caption, “Prepping for school tomorrow. I have 100 hours so far.. 300 more to go before I get my license to be a nail tech!”
Bynes announced earlier that month that she abandoned plans to become a fashion designer, having previously attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, FIDM.
The actress, known for the 2006 film “She’s the Man,” had been scheduled to make her make her first public appearance since the termination of her conservatorship, and was planning on reuniting with her former “All That” costars at ‘90s Con in Hartford, Conn.
Bynes was set join an All That panel with Kel Mitchell, Lori Beth Denberg, and Danny Tamberelli at the convention.
“I’m really excited to reunite with my cast mates and meet the fans at ’90s Con,” Bynes told People magazine earlier this year.
At this point, Bynes’ family is in contact with medical professionals and it’s unclear how long the actress will be hospitalized. Normally, a 5150 hold lasts three days, but it can be extended by a doctor or a judge if they believe she needs further treatment.
Sources close to the situation have reported that the former actress has recently undergone "startling and dramatic weight loss over the last few months," and currently weighs less than 100 pounds.
