Drake Withdraws His Grammy Nominations
LOS ANGELES – Drake has asked the Recording Academy to withdraw his nominations for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance, Variety is reporting today.
He was one of five nominees in the Best Rap Album, for “Certified Lover Boy,” and for Best Rap Performance, for his song “Way 2 Sexy,” which features Future and Young Thug.
The Grammy voting will go forward with just four nominees, according to Variety. There was no reason given for the request, the Recording Academy said.
Jon Batiste led the award nominations with 11, while Disney actress-turned-singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo earned nods in all four top categories of best new artist and record, song and album of the year.
Comedian and “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah will host the awards event ceremony in January.
The show will be presented on Jan. 31, 2022 at Crypto.com Arena, which is the new name for Staples Center beginning Dec. 25.
The event will be televised live on CBS and streamed on Paramount+.
