HBO Releases New Images from its 'Game of Thrones' Prequel Series 'House of the Dragon'

LOS ANGELES – HBO has released its official images of the upcoming "Game of Thrones" prequel series, "House of the Dragon."


“House of the Dragon” which is scheduled to debut in 2022, is set a few hundred years prior to the events of “Game of Thrones” and follows the story of House Targaryen and the Targaryen civil war that later became known as the “Dance of the Dragons.” The show's cast includes Paddy Considine, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Sonoya Mizuno and Fabien Frankel.


The photos newly-released photos feature D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen; Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon; and Cooke as Alicent Hightower and Ifans as Otto Hightower.


Based upon George R.R. Martin's book "Fire and Blood," “House of the Dragon” began production on April 26 as part of a 10-episode order from HBO.


Miguel Sapochnik and Ryan Condal are the co-showrunners and will also serve as executive producers along with Martin and Vince Gerardis. Martin and Condal are the series' co-creators. Sara Lee Hess will also serve as writer and executive producer, while Ron Schmidt will be executive producers. Sapochnik will direct the pilot along with additional episodes. Clare Kilner and Geeta V. Patel will also direct. Greg Yaitanes will also directing and serve as co-executive producer.
