Kyle Schmid Joins CBS' 'NCIS Origins' as Young Mike Franks
LOS ANGELES – Kyle Schmid has joined CBS‘ “NCIS: Origins,” where he is set to play a young Mike Franks.
Schmid has been cast as a lead opposite Austin Stowell and Mariel Molino in the CBS Studios-produced drama that follows the story of young Gibbs, a prequel to the long-running procedural series, which has gone straight-to-series for the 2024-25 season.
With Mark Harmon as executive producer and narrator, “Origins” begins in 1991, years prior to the events of “NCIS,” and focuses on Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ younger years. In the new prequel, Gibbs (Stowell) begins his career as a special agent at the NIS Camp Pendleton office where he joins a ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks.
Franks has been a recurring character played by veteran actor Muse Watson. Franks was stabbed to death in Season 8 but continued to appear to Gibbs when he needed advice during a particularly difficult case.
Schmid is known for his roles on History’s “Six,” “Copper,” from BBC America; “Being Human from Syfy; Netflix’s The I-Land and ABC’s Big Sky. He also appeared recently on ABC’s “The Rookie.”
