Mira Sorvino Calls Out the Oscars for Leaving Out Her Father from 'In Memoriam' Segment

March 13, 2023

LOS ANGELES – Mira Sorvino was among the many who found “baffling” the Academy’s decision to leave her father “Goodfellas” star Paul Sorvino,” and others out of Sunday night’s on-air In Memoriam tribute.

The actress, who won a Best Supporting Oscar in 1996 for the comedy “Mighty Aphrodite,” expressed her disappointment Sunday night on Twitter, writing: “I for one am remembering Dad on this Oscars night.” On Monday, she addressed the omission more directly, tweeting, “It is baffling beyond belief that my beloved father and many other amazing brilliant departed actors were left out. The Oscars forgot about Paul Sorvino, but the rest of us never will!!”

Paul Sorvino’s Oscar-nominated “Goodfellas” costar Ray Liotta, who died on May 26, 2022, was included in the broadcast tribute, but several other notable actors, such as Anne Heche, Tom Sizemore, Philip Baker Hall and Cindy Williams, were not included in the tribute.

Goodfellas actor Sorvino died of natural causes in July at 83 and his widow Dee Dee called on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to apologize for his exclusion.
