LOS ANGELES — Neve Campbell told the Associated Press Monday night that she will return to the “Scream” franchise for the series’ eight installment.

Campbell said while discussing her upcoming film projects that she plans to reprise the role as series’ iconic final girl for the next chapter of the horror franchise. While discussing her upcoming projects, the actress said that she has two shows in development, one of which she had sold.

“I can never tell you anything about Scream 8,” she said when asked to reveal more.

Campbell has been a major character in the film series since its debut in December 1996 when she played Sydney Prescott, a teenager who was traumatized by her mother’s murder.  She went on to star in the first four films of Wes Craven’s series before the franchise was rebooted with Scream (2022), which followed the Carpenter sisters played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.

Most recently, Campbell returned to “Scream 7,” released in February, which followed the story of Sidney and her onscreen daughter Tatum (Isabel May). The release became the highest-grossing installment of the series, ultimately earning $208 million around the world on a $45 million budget.
