LOS ANGELES — The Screen Actors Guild Awards will be re-branded as The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA.
The actors’ union SAG-AFTRA said the change aims “to provide clearer recognition in terms of what the show is about for our domestic and global audiences.”
The awards are generally considered a bellwether for the Academy Awards, particularly in the performance categories. The SAG Awards have been broadcast by Netflix since 2024, just ahead of the Oscar ceremony.
This season’s Actor Awards ceremony is set for March 1, 2026.
SAG-AFTRA said that the event’s new title from the name of the statuettes presented to its honorees each year. Awards’ voting, submission and eligibility rules will remain the same, according to the union, and ‘For Your Consideration’ materials will continue to use the Screen Actors Guild Awards name during the current pre-nomination voting period that ends on Jan. 5.
“Since the beginning, our statue has been called ‘The Actor’ and we’re a show that’s entirely about actors, so this new name is a perfect next step in the show’s evolution,” said Jon Brockett, executive producer of The Actor Awards show. “The Actor Awards presented by SAG-AFTRA gives viewers in 190-plus countries an immediate understanding of who we are and what we’re about.”
