Will Arnett to Replace Armie Hammer in 'Next Goal Wins'

LOS ANGELES – Will Arnett is set to replace Armie Hammer in Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins.”

Hammer’s deporter comes after the actor was accused by several women of sexual assault. He has denied the claims and said any sexual encounters were entirely consensual, but the Los Angeles Police Department has launched an investigation.

But in the aftermatch, Hammer was fired from various films and television series, including the Jennifer Lopez rom-com “Shotgun Wedding” and a Paramount Plus show about the behind-the-scenes action on “The Godfather.” Hammer also left the upcoming Broadway production of “The Minutes.” He will appear in the Agatha Christie adaptation “Death on the Nile,” which was set to open in February.

“Next Goal Wins” is based on a 2015 documentary of the same name, which follows the true story of Dutch coach Thomas Rongen, who attempts to turn a losing American Samoa soccer team into winners. Waititi also wrote the script with Iain Morris. Searchlight Pictures is the distributor.
